Travelling to Lyon

In my last year of university, I decided that straight after I finished my degree, Modern languages with Interpreting (French and Spanish), I would go to France and live out there. I originally went back to Aix-en-Provence where I had spent 5 months on my year abroad. However, I realised that I had forgotten how expensive it was over there, 500 euros for a tiny 18m2 flat didn't seem like much of a bargain to me!! So, I rang my French friend who I had met in my 6 months abroad in Granada and she encouraged me to go to Lyon.

After spending 2 weeks living with her and her family, I decided it was time for me to stop living out of a suitcase!! Her father kindly came with me to help me flat hunt as I was a bit fazed by it all and beginning to realise what a big step I'd taken deciding to move to France!! Being naive and very new to this, I somehow managed to pay 120 euros just to see a list of flats. The owners apparently only dealt with that agency. I started looking at different flats and was particularly taken by one flat in Oullins. At the time I was so excited to be getting my own place. I thought it was the best flat ever!! I failed to notice that it was pretty old-fashioned, a bit dirty really and definitely not the most beautiful place ever. It was mine and that's what mattered.

My favourite holiday

My favourite holiday has to be in May 2007 when I went on a 4-day trip to Nice with my good friends Gabriela and Carlos. We stayed in a hostel. It was great fun as everyone was travelling around so there was a great atmosphere there. We visited Monaco and Cannes too on this trip as it only took 15-20 minutes on the train. 4-days is the perfect length for a quick break as it gives you time to relax and you can really kick back and enjoy the time!

The journey up was great fun as the people we were sitting with were surprised by how generous we were offering them to share our snacks as they said that never happens on trains. We like to share what we have with others, it just comes naturally to us. I think it's the same for a lot of people. It was an amazing journey where we met a new artist who told us her story of how she had given up her law studies to pursue a singing career. I love sharing in people's dream.
